Supporting the Beacon Project

As a Charity, we are completely reliant on volunteers and donations.

If you would like to find out about volunteering with us we would love to hear from you.  We are always looking for more people to join our passionate and hard working team.

Alternatively you may prefer to donate to our project.  There are several ways to do that, and there is plenty of information below on what we need.

If you have further questions please feel free to contact us.

Our friendly team of volunteers currently work on Tuesdays’ and Fridays’, between 10am – 2pm.  They perform a variety of roles from preparing & serving meals, to sorting & distributing donations of food & items of clothing to our guests, to cleaning up & doing laundry.  Many of our volunteers also help with identifying needs, mentoring and befriending.  No previous experience is needed, just a heart and passion for this type of work.  All training is provided, including the required safeguarding.  DBS checks may be required depending on the roles.  We encourage potential volunteers to come along and experience a session to see if there is a fit.

We are generally able to accept donations on Tuesdays’ & Fridays’ between 9.30am – 2pm, however if the peak times of 11.45am – 1pm can be avoided it is helpful.

With large volume donations it’s always best to e-mail and let us know so we can make sure we have the space and the volunteers on hand to deal with them.

If the opening times prove difficult we can also potentially make other arrangements.

I want to volunteer but I don't know if its right for me?

That’s great you want to volunteer with us. We offer training and support for all of our volunteers, so you won’t feel thrown into the deep end. There will always be someone with lots of experience as part of the volunteer team so you will never be alone or unsure. There is also no pressure if you try volunteering and realise it is not for you there are plenty of other ways to support us.

I can only volunteer at certain times and they don't always match your opening hours?

Most of the time we need volunteers from 10:30am to 2pm espescially over the opening hours of 12:00pm to 1:30pm. We only expect our volunteers to cover one session a week. If you cannot always make your session or can only offer certain times we are happy to work with you in figuring out when you can volunteer with us
